Metric equivalents

These tables are your kitchen translator between US customary and metric measurements. Start with the Volume table for everyday measuring of dry and wet ingredients using cups, tablespoons, and teaspoons. When working with thicker, denser liquids like honey or molasses, switch to the Liquid by volume table since density affects true measurement. Use the Weight table when a recipe calls for ounces or pounds, particularly for meats, cheeses, and produce. The Length table helps when sizing dough, cuts, or bakeware. Finally, always cross-reference the Oven temperature table when using a European or international recipe to ensure accurate baking results.

4 cups (1 quart)32 fl oz960 ml (~1 liter)
8 cups (½ gallon)64 fl oz1.9 liters
16 cups (1 gallon)128 fl oz3.8 liters

Note: These are fluid ounces (fl oz), which measure volume, not weight. Fluid ounces and weight ounces are different — 1 fl oz of water happens to weigh approximately 1 oz, but that changes with denser ingredients like honey or oil.
