Bloom pillow mist for sleep

An amber glass spray bottle positioned on a wooden surface, surrounded by sprigs of dried lavender.

A pillow mist is one of the simplest and most effective sleep aids you can make. Lavender has been extensively studied for its ability to reduce anxiety, slow heart rate, and promote deeper, more restful sleep. Chamomile adds additional calming and sedative properties, and a touch of cedarwood grounds the blend and adds a warm, woodsy note that signals the nervous system to relax. Misting your pillow and bedding a few minutes before sleep creates a sensory ritual that trains your brain to associate the scent with rest, making it more effective over time.

Ingredients

  • 3 oz distilled water
  • 1 oz witch hazel
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops Roman chamomile essential oil
  • 4 drops cedarwood essential oil
  • 2 drops vetiver essential oil (optional, deeply grounding)

Directions

  1. Pour witch hazel into a clean 4 oz glass spray bottle.
  2. Add all essential oils to the witch hazel and swirl.
  3. Add distilled water.
  4. Cap and shake well.
  5. Mist 2 to 3 times onto pillow and bedding 5 to 10 minutes before sleep.
  6. Shake before each use.

Tips and variations

  • For children, use only lavender and reduce to 5 drops total
  • Add 2 drops of bergamot for a slightly citrusy, uplifting note that still promotes calm
  • Can also be misted in the bedroom as a room spray
  • Works beautifully as part of a consistent bedtime routine
  • Store away from light for longest shelf life
