Hearty coleslaw

This homemade coleslaw recipe is a classic blend of shredded cabbage, grated carrots, and thinly sliced red onion, all coated in a creamy, tangy dressing. Ingredients

  • 1 medium green cabbage (or mix of red and green cabbage), shredded (about 8 cups)

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (or apple cider vinegar vinegar)
  • 3-4 tablespoons granulated sugar, sweeten to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon of celery seed
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables
    • In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, grated carrots, and thinly sliced red onion (if using).
  2. Make the Dressing
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, lemon juice (or apple cider vinegar), sugar, celery seed, salt, and pepper until smooth and well combined.
  3. Combine
    • Pour the dressing over the vegetables and toss until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Chill
    • Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  5. Serve
    • Give the coleslaw a good toss before serving. Enjoy!

You can also tweak the recipe to your liking by adding ingredients like Dijon mustard.
