Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade: 1 tbsp chili powder, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes, 1/2 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tbsp ground cumin, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 8 small tortillas (corn or flour)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Directions

  1. Cook the beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onions and garlic: Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. Season: Add the taco seasoning (or homemade mix) and water. Stir well and simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the sauce to thicken.
  4. Prepare tortillas: Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave.
  5. Assemble tacos: Spoon the beef mixture onto each tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, avocado slices, sour cream, and salsa.
  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired and enjoy!
