Ingredients

For the Pizza

  • 1 pizza dough ball (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup tomato or pizza sauce
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 2-3 fresh tomatoes, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1-2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Balsamic Drizzle

  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional, for sweetness)

Directions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
  2. Prepare the Balsamic Drizzle: In a small saucepan, combine the balsamic vinegar and honey. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low and let it cook until reduced by half, about 10 minutes. The mixture should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness. Transfer the dough to a pizza stone or a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Assemble the Pizza: Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Arrange the fresh mozzarella slices evenly over the sauce, followed by the sliced tomatoes. Drizzle the olive oil over the top and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Bake the Pizza: Transfer the pizza to the oven (onto the pizza stone, if using) and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  6. Finish with Basil and Balsamic: Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Drizzle the balsamic reduction over the pizza.
  7. Serve: Slice and serve your Margherita pizza with a simple side salad or a glass of red wine.
