A yoga mat that smells fresh and clean makes practice so much more enjoyable. This spray disinfects and deodorizes your mat after each use without degrading the rubber or foam material the way harsh commercial cleaners can. Tea tree oil is the workhorse here, killing bacteria, fungi, and odor-causing microbes on contact. Lavender adds a calming scent that enhances the meditative quality of your practice, and a small amount of witch hazel helps the blend disperse and dry quickly without leaving residue.
Ingredients
- 2 oz distilled water
- 1 oz witch hazel
- 1 oz white vinegar
- 8 drops tea tree essential oil
- 6 drops lavender essential oil
- 3 drops peppermint essential oil
Directions
- Combine witch hazel and vinegar in a clean 4 oz glass spray bottle.
- Add all essential oils and swirl.
- Add distilled water.
- Cap and shake well.
- After practice, spray mat generously on both sides.
- Wipe down with a clean cloth.
- Allow to air dry completely before rolling.
Tips and variations
- Do not use on natural rubber mats if they are sensitive to essential oils; test a small area first
- For a more energizing post-practice spray, increase peppermint to 8 drops
- Can also be used on gym equipment, foam rollers, and resistance bands
- Add 2 drops of eucalyptus for extra antimicrobial power
- Shake before each use
