The littlest things can hang me up.
Keeping me bound,
Stabbing hunger.
Tiny binding.

Like a hairband around my wrist,
Squeezing off the circulation.
Providing security for a future fit.

What if my hair blows in the wind.
It’ll get into my eyes over and over.
Better be ready to deal with it.

Can’t stand the cutting feeling
The knowing it’s there but choosing to leave it.
The binding tiny but fierce containing.

Around my wrist.
Wrapped twice around my finger like a wedding ring.
Around me restraining.

Find a bandana,
Disrupt and interrupt the flow.
Still spy the fireworks in the dark.

Letting their payload go.
The firecracker’s fierce sizzle.
Strike the match spark.

Tie it out of my eyes.
But let it be tossled.
Keeping strands from being harmed.

Let it be down.
Still enjoy the sparkler’s crackle
Companions charmed.

Tiny binding no longer.
Taming wild things,
No bleeping way.

Tiny binding,
Snatched from where I dropped it.
Scurried into the fray.

Picked up by the cat,
A favorite new toy.
Paws and teeth.
Fate’s unwinding.
