Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 4 pounds pork shoulder, salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup barbeque sauce (I use Famous Dave’s) (plus extra for serving)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Hamburger buns or your favorite bread rolls
Directions
- Prep the Pork
- Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder. Season generously with salt and pepper.
- Layer in the Slow Cooker
- Add oil in the bottom of the slow cooker. Add the seasoned pork on top.
- Mix the Liquid Ingredients
- In a bowl, combine broth, barbeque sauce, chopped onion, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, brown sugar, mustard, and spices. Mix well.
- Pour Over Pork
- Pour the liquid mixture over the pork in the slow cooker.
- Cook Low and Slow
- Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 5-6 hours until the pork is fork-tender and easily pulls apart.
- Shred the Pork
- Once cooked, shred it in the slow cooker using two forks. Remove excess fat.
- Add More Barbecue Sauce (optional)
- Stir in more barbecue sauce if desired. Let it cook for an additional 20-30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Serve
- Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns or your favorite bread rolls. Drizzle extra barbecue sauce if desired.
