This fish taco recipe combines perfectly spiced, tender white fish with a creamy, zesty sauce, fresh shredded cabbage, and vibrant toppings. The blend of chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika gives the fish a delightful smoky flavor, while the cilantro-lime sauce adds a refreshing tang. For an ideal accompaniment, serve these fish tacos with a side of Mexican street corn (elote), a tangy cucumber and avocado salad, or a simple black bean and corn salsa. Ingredients

  • 1 lb. white fish fillets (such as cod or tilapia)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 jalapeño, diced (optional)
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • Lime wedges, feta cheese sprinkles or shredded cheese for serving

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Rub the fish fillets with the spice mix and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil.
  4. Bake the fish for 15-20 minutes, or until it flakes easily with a fork.
  5. While the fish is baking, prepare the sauce by mixing mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, and cilantro in a bowl. Set aside.
  6. Warm the corn or flour tortillas in a skillet or microwave.
  7. Assemble the tacos by placing the baked fish in the tortillas. Top with shredded cabbage, diced red onion, tomatoes, and jalapeño (if using).
  8. Drizzle with the prepared sauce, sprinkle with feta or shredded cheese, and serve with lime wedges on the side.

Customize these fish tacos with different toppings like mango salsa, avocado slices, or pickled onions. Swap the fish for shrimp or tofu, and experiment with sauces like spicy mayo or chipotle crema.
