Hearty ham steak dijon

This ham steak tastes great because its salty, smoky richness is balanced by the Dijon’s sharp tang. Honey rounds the mustard’s bite, while vinegar adds brightness that cuts through the fat. Butter ties everything together into a glossy, savory sauce that clings to the meat. Serve it with creamy mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or rice to soak up extra sauce, plus a green vegetable like roasted broccoli, green beans, or a simple salad for freshness. Plate the ham, spoon sauce over the top, and finish with parsley. Add lemon wedges or extra mustard at the table.

Ingredients

  • For the Ham Steak
    • 2-3 ham steaks (about 1 inch thick)
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Dijon Mustard Sauce
    • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
    • 1 tablespoon honey
    • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or white wine vinegar)
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

  1. Prepare the Ham Steaks
    • Pat the ham steaks dry with paper towels.
    • Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the Ham Steaks
    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
    • Add the ham steaks and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are heated through and have a nice golden brown crust.
    • Remove the ham steaks from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Dijon Mustard Sauce
    • In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium.
    • Add the butter and let it melt.
    • Stir in the Dijon mustard, honey, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce is heated through.
  4. Serve
    • Return the ham steaks to the skillet, spoon the sauce over them, and heat for an additional minute.
    • Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Tips

  • Serve with sides like roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey to taste.
