Hearty Bibimbap

One of the most well-known ultimate Korean dinner.

Bibimbap (비빔밥) is a beloved Korean dish featuring a bowl of warm rice topped with a vibrant array of sautéed and seasoned vegetables, sliced beef, a fried egg, and spicy gochujang sauce. Serve over rice or wrapped in a lettuce leaf.

Ingredients

Beef

  • 200g ribeye/sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • pinch black pepper

Vegetables

  • 1 small zucchini, julienned or thinly sliced
  • 1 small carrot, julienned
  • 100g spinach
  • 100g bean sprouts
  • 4-5 shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, julienned or thinly sliced
  • 1 cup kimchi (optional)
  • Salt, sesame oil (for seasoning)

Sauce

  • 3 Tbsp gochujang
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp sugar/honey
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Assembly

  • 2 cups steamed short-grain rice
  • 2 eggs (fried sunny-side up)
  • Sesame seeds, nori strips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Marinate Beef: Mix beef with marinade, rest 20 min, stir-fry until cooked.
  2. Prep Veggies
    • Spinach & bean sprouts: Blanch, rinse, squeeze, season with salt & sesame oil.
    • Zucchini & carrot: Sauté separately with salt, 1-2 min.
    • Mushrooms: Sauté with a pinch of salt.
    • Cucumber: Salt, rest 10 min, squeeze excess water.
    • Kimchi: Chop.
  3. Make Sauce: Mix all sauce ingredients.
  4. Fry Eggs: Sunny-side up, yolks runny.
  5. Assemble
    • Rice in bowl
    • Arrange beef & veggies in sections
    • Top with egg, sprinkle sesame seeds & nori
    • Serve with sauce

To Eat
Add sauce, mix thoroughly.

Tips

  • Customize with other vegetables like radish, bell pepper, or lettuce.
  • For vegetarian Bibimbap, omit beef and add tofu or extra mushrooms.
  • Serve with Korean side dishes (banchan) for an authentic meal.
