Week 2 Exercise & Fitness

“Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it.”
– Plato

In Week 2, outdoor activities like running, hiking, and snow sports provide us a refreshing way to stay active. To help Americans get 10,000 steps within local communities, there is America Walks which is a U.S. organization that has a comprehensive list of local walking organizations across the country. They work at the state and local levels to make walking safe, routine, and enjoyable. Group fitness classes, such as spin and yoga can offer more camaraderie and motivation. Home workout programs can provide us additional flexibility and convenience. This week let’s aim to continue setting achievable goals and maintaining consistency to ensure that fitness is a sustainable part of our lifestyle.

In Japan, group walking clubs enjoy scenic routes to promote social and physical well-being. Australians take advantage of their summer with beach yoga and outdoor boot camps. In the Netherlands, cycling remains a favorite, combining daily commuting with exercise. South Africans engage in sunrise runs, capitalizing on cooler morning temperatures. In Brazil, capoeira classes fuse martial arts with dance, enhancing strength and agility. Nordic countries embrace cross-country skiing, a full-body workout ideal for winter. These international practices highlight creative ways to stay active and healthy as the year begins.
