Gradually mix in the warm milk and butter, seasoning with salt and white pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh chives or parsley for an extra touch. These mashed potatoes are perfect for any meal, offering a rich, garlicky taste that complements a variety of main dishes.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 5 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1/2 cup milk (or heavy cream for a richer texture)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • Salt, pepper, and ground white pepper to taste
  • Fresh chives or parsley for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. Boil the Potatoes and Garlic: Place the potatoes and garlic cloves in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Heat the Milk and Butter: While the potatoes are cooking, heat the milk and butter in a small saucepan over low heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm. Do not boil.
  3. Mash the Potatoes: Drain the potatoes and garlic, then return them to the pot. Mash them using a potato masher or a hand mixer until smooth.
  4. Combine and Season: Gradually add the warm milk and butter mixture to the mashed potatoes, stirring until well combined and creamy. Season with salt and ground white pepper to taste.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl. Garnish with fresh chives or parsley if desired. Serve hot.

These garlic mashed potatoes are creamy, flavorful, and perfect as a side dish for any meal.
