Hearty slow cooker beef brisket

Slow Cooker Beef Brisket is a simply made gem, marrying ease with rich, comforting flavors. The brisket undergoes a slow, gentle simmer in the crockpot. Ingredients

  • 4-6 pounds beef brisket
  • 3 tablespoons prepared mustard
  • 1 package dry onion soup mix
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 8-12 buns for leftover sandwiches (optional)

Directions

  1. Cook in Crockpot
    • Place brisket in crockpot fat side down. Do not add water.
    • Cover brisket with mustard and onion soup mix.
    • Cover the crockpot and cook on low overnight or until the brisket is tender.
  2. Rest and Slice
    • Skim mustard and seasoning from brisket into liquid. Reserve liquid for gravy.
    • Once cooked, remove brisket from crockpot let the brisket rest for a few minutes, peel off fat and discard fat before slicing brisket against the grain or shredding it.
  3. Make Gravy
    • In a saucepan on medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and then combine with 2 tablespoons of flour using whisk, cook flour mixture for 1-2 minutes, then slowly whisk in liquid (strained if desired) from crockpot until well combined. Cook and stir on medium until thickened.
  4. Serve
    • Serve the brisket slices with the gravy spooned over the top.
