Ingredients

For the Bread

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk (or milk with a teaspoon of vinegar)

For the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two loaf pans.
  2. Make the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the cinnamon sugar mixture. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Batter
    • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Alternate Mixing
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
  6. Layering in Loaf Pans
    • Divide half of the batter between the two prepared loaf pans.
    • Sprinkle about half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter in each pan.
    • Add the remaining batter on top, and then sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Swirl the Mixture
    • Use a knife to swirl the cinnamon sugar mixture into the batter, creating a marbled effect.
  8. Bake
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool
    • Allow the bread to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
