A harmonious blend of coastal flavors. Updated since 11/14/2023.

Crafting perfect crab cakes involves a medley of lump crab meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, and aromatic seasonings, creating a harmonious blend of coastal flavors. The addition of Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and Old Bay seasoning elevates the taste profile, while parsley adds a fresh note. Shaped into patties and chilled, these delectable morsels are traditionally pan-fried until golden. For an even more enticing twist, air frying offers a healthier alternative with unparalleled results. The air fryer crisps the exterior to perfection, achieving a delightful crunch without excessive oil absorption, while preserving the succulent, moist texture within—a modern technique enhancing the classic charm of crab cakes
Ingredients
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound lump crab meat, picked over for shells
- 1 1/4 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- All-purpose flour for coating
- Spray oil or very small amount of melted butter for cooking
Directions
- Prepare Crab Mixture
- In a large bowl, combine the first 9 ingredients. By alternating, gently fold in crab meat, breadcrumbs and parsley into the liquid mixture, being careful not to break up the crab meat too much. The mixture should hold together but still have some lumps of crab.
- Shape into Patties
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into crab cakes, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Lightly coat the patties with flour (optional). Place the formed crab cakes on a plate.
- Chill
- Refrigerate the crab cakes for at least 30 minutes. Chilling helps them firm up and hold their shape during cooking.
- Cooking
- Heat Air Fryer to 385°F.
- Spray your rack or basket if needed and carefully place the crab cakes in a single layer. Give cakes a good spritz of oil or butter. Place cakes in the air fryer and cook until golden brown on each side, approximately 6-7 minutes per side (12-15 total on a rack).
- Serve
- Once cooked through and golden, remove the crab cakes from the air-fryer and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce or a squeeze of fresh lemon.
Enjoy these homemade crab cakes as a delightful appetizer or a main course. Their crisp exterior and moist, flavorful interior make them a crowd-pleaser for any occasion.
