Week 18 Farm & Pets

As week 18 of the year unfolds, we embrace the rejuvenating energy of spring to enhance our farm’s overall health and efficiency. Start with a thorough spring cleaning of all animal enclosures, ensuring that each space is free from debris and winter buildup. Regularly check and maintain fencing, water sources, and shelter to provide a safe environment for all your animals. Consider rotating pastures to allow for regrowth and prevent overgrazing. Additionally, updating your farm’s record-keeping system can streamline tasks and track each animal’s health and productivity.

Dogs

Grooming is essential, especially for shedding winter coats. Regular exercise and mental stimulation through toys and training will keep dogs happy and healthy.

  • Heart worm 6/1/2025

Horses

Check hooves regularly for signs of thrush and maintain a consistent farrier schedule. Adjust feeding routines to account for the new grazing opportunities. Ensure clean, fresh water is always available and consider adding electrolytes to their diet during warmer days. Regular grooming helps to remove shedding winter coats and monitor for skin conditions.

  • Fluid Flex
  • Pick up & put up hay
  • Farrier last half January.
  • Worm 9/1/2025

Goats

Spring is an excellent time to check their hooves and trim them as needed. Vaccinations and deworming should be up to date. Provide fresh bedding and clean shelters to prevent respiratory issues. Rotating pastures will help maintain healthy grazing areas and reduce parasite loads.

  • Replace bedding and diatomaceous earth house
  • Worm 9/1/2025

Chickens & Poultry

Remove old bedding, sanitize the coop, and replace with fresh materials. Ensure nesting boxes are clean and accessible. Check for signs of mites or lice and treat accordingly. Providing a balanced diet with added vitamins can support egg production during the changing seasons. Protect against predators by reinforcing coop security and consider adding dust baths for the birds to naturally control parasites.

  • Replace bedding and diatomaceous earth nest boxes

Hobby Farm Upkeep

By integrating these improvements into our routine, we create a well-maintained, supportive environment for all your farm animals, enhancing their health and productivity through the seasons.
