Ingredients
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or any high smoke point oil)
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- Salt to taste
- Optional: melted butter for drizzling
Directions
- Heat the Oil: In a large, heavy-bottomed pot with a lid, heat the oil over medium-high heat. To test if the oil is hot enough, add a couple of popcorn kernels and wait for them to pop.
- Add Popcorn Kernels: Once the test kernels pop, add the rest of the popcorn kernels to the pot in an even layer.
- Cover and Shake: Cover the pot with the lid and gently shake the pot back and forth over the burner to keep the kernels from burning.
- Pop the Kernels: Continue shaking until you hear the popping slow down to about 2-3 seconds between pops. Remove the pot from the heat.
- Season: Immediately transfer the popcorn to a large bowl, sprinkle with salt, and drizzle with melted butter if desired. Toss to coat evenly.
