Hearty BBQ Chicken

Juicy BBQ chicken with tangy, caramelized sauce.

This BBQ chicken is a flavorful dish featuring tender, juicy chicken slathered in tangy, sweet barbecue sauce. Whether grilled or baked, the caramelized sauce creates a delicious, smoky glaze. To complement BBQ chicken, consider serving it with classic sides like coleslaw, which adds a crunchy, creamy contrast, or cornbread for a sweet and savory pairing. Roasted vegetables, such as corn on the cob or bell peppers, enhance the meal with a touch of charred goodness. For a refreshing touch, a simple green salad with a light vinaigrette balances the richness of the BBQ sauce. This combination creates a satisfying and well-rounded meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Prep the Chicken
    • Preheat your grill to medium heat or your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
    • In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Season the Chicken
    • Rub the chicken with olive oil.
    • Sprinkle the seasoning mix evenly over the chicken, making sure it’s well coated.
  3. Grill or Bake
    • Grilling: Place the chicken on the grill. Cook for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). During the last 5 minutes of grilling, brush the chicken with BBQ sauce and continue to cook until the sauce is caramelized.
    • Baking: Place the chicken in a baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes, then brush with BBQ sauce and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) and the sauce is caramelized.
  4. Serve
    • Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
